Earth Day 2025
On April 22, 2025, the Hanover Garden Club hosted a free presentation of two films—What’s the Rush and Restoring Insects—from entomologist Doug Tallamy of Homegrown National Park. The sold-out event at the Nugget Theaters demonstrated that small changes in our yards can have a huge impact on biodiversity. By creating native habitat, we can help restore nature while experiencing the joy and fulfillment of connecting with the world around us.
Attendees learned:
How biodiversity is declining, and what we can do to help
Simple, effective ways to create habitat and support wildlife
The personal rewards of bringing nature back home and into our public spaces (like at the Hanover Garden Club beds in front of the Nugget!)
At the post-screening Q&A, VT Center for Ecostudies’ conservation biologist Dr. Desirée Narango and conservation scientist Dr. Ryan Rebozo along with educator and local ecological gardening expert Alicia Houk discussed native plants, creating insect and bird habitats at home, and strategies for yard rewilding. Free printed resources were available so attendees could take action right away.
Presented by the Hanover Garden Club, Sustainable Hanover, Northern Woodlands, Cedar Circle Farm & Education Center, VT Center for Ecostudies, Sustainable Lebanon,Hanover Improvement Society, A Wild Garden, Hanover Conservation Commission’s Biodiversity Committee, Norwich Conservation Commission, and Hanover Conservancy; publicized by the Dartmouth Sustainability Office.
